Without the hustle and bustle of mass tourism
From the beginning of November to the end of March, there is practically no tour operator-organised tourism in Crete, unlike other destinations such as southern Spain or Cyprus, which are well-known winter destinations.
All major hotels and resorts in Crete are closed and there are no direct charter flights as in the summer months.
This is an ideal time to travel for those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of mass tourism and discover the original character of the island.

Only a few steps away from a dreamy old town
The old town of Chania, which boasts the romantic Venetian harbour, offers a unique setting with the old lighthouse, the Firkas fortress, the mosque with its large white dome and the pastel-coloured houses from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
Lose yourself in the winding medieval streets of charming Chania. Snuggle up in cosy corners of quaint cafés and tavernas, amidst magnificent Venetian architecture.
Surrounded by unique nature
Crete makes the hearts of nature lovers beat faster all year round. At any time of the year, something is in bloom, trees bear their fruit. The great differences in altitude on the island contribute to a particularly large number of species, and climatically there are also great differences between the protected valleys in the south and the plateaus in the mountains.
The island is also fascinating because it has retained much of its rural originality. Crete offers wonderful hiking routes through high mountains and deep gorges, dreamy mountain villages, ancient buildings and medieval castles: an impressive and particularly varied backdrop.
Soak up the sun and enjoy the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea
The sun shines on Crete for 300 days a year on average. And although some rainy days are to be expected in the months of November to March, the Cretan sun is quickly there again!
An infinite number of fine sandy beaches and small bays await you, almost for your exclusive use.
The sea, within the natural bays of Chania, maintains a temperature between 20 °C and 16 °C throughout late autumn and winter. A dream for all those who appreciate the numerous advantages of bathing in open waters in winter.
Let yourself completely relax and regenerate
In a specially designed, spacious room at the Chania Flair Deluxe Boutique Hotel you can enjoy a range of beauty and massage treatments with the assistance of our expert staff.
The treatments tailored to you personally help to relax and regenerate your body and give your soul and mind relaxation and well-being.

Discover ancient traditional customs and traditions
From November to March is the time for the olive harvest and, especially in the countryside, almost every Cretan is a proud owner of olive trees. Due to the often difficult terrain, harvesting is still done using traditional methods (spreading nets, beating olives from the tree with sticks). At least every other day, the filled sacks are taken to the olive mill.
And from mid-October, columns of smoke rise from the landscape all over Crete. This is when the raki distilleries are put into operation, of which almost every village has at least one.
Take exciting cultural time journeys into history and myth
Crete not only delights holidaymakers with its fantastic beaches and diverse nature, but also has a rich cultural heritage.
Mythology and history are closely intertwined here and are brought to life by numerous archaeological sites and historical buildings. Walk in the footsteps of Europe's earliest advanced civilisation, discover the treasures of Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman architecture at your leisure and without annoying queues, and learn to understand how the Cretans see themselves!
Take part in the vibrant nightlife and get to know the music of Crete
In Chania you will find a very lively nightlife all year round: numerous nightclubs, rock & metal bars, live stages etc. await you in the old town and surrounding area.
An exciting and extremely lively encounter with timeless sounds is Crete's own music with its dances, which already enchanted the heroes of old. Since then, the magic of Cretan music has continued to permeate new generations of people. Once you have heard it, you will never forget it.

Crete is well accessible even in winter
Although there are no direct charter flights from the beginning of November to the end of March, as in the summer months, the island remains very well connected with most European cities. Several airlines offer flights mostly via Athens or Thessaloniki to both Heraklion and Chania, Crete. The connecting flight is usually organised to minimise waiting time at the airport.
