Corissia Resorts traces its origins back to 1985, when the Tsiledakis family from Crete set out with a clear vision for genuine hospitality. Founder Sifis Tsiledakis began his journey in tourism in his birthplace, Kournas, a small village near Georgioupolis, Crete. Although the beginnings were modest and start-up capital was limited, his perseverance, creativity and strong personal commitment laid the foundations for what would become the Corissia hospitality group.
Supported by his father, Giorgis Tsiledakis, and the wider family, Sifis and his wife Maria opened the first Corissia hotel in 1989. With only 23 rooms at the time, Corissia Beach Hotel. became the starting point of a long-term development built on family values, dedication and authentic Cretan hospitality.
The development
Today, the Corissia hotel group comprises five hotels: Hilton Chania Old Town Resort & Spa Hotel and Chania Flair Deluxe Boutique Hotel in the city of Chania, both in the five-star category; Harmony Boutique Resort, also a five-star hotel; as well as Corissia Princess and Corissia Beach, two four-star hotels located on the beach of Georgioupolis in Chania, Crete.
Corissia Resorts continues to reflect the same spirit of Cretan hospitality, personal care and long-term commitment inspired by its founders. Today, this website and its direct booking services are operated by Hotel Handling A.E., a travel agency representing the group’s hotels and managing direct reservations on their behalf. While the current portfolio focuses on the Corissia group, Hotel Handling A.E. may also include selected additional properties in the future, always with the same emphasis on quality, reliability and guest care.
The origin of the name Corissia
The name Corissia is deeply connected to the landscape and history of the area where our story began. It is inspired by the ancient name of Lake Kournas, known in antiquity as Korissia — the only natural freshwater lake on Crete, located just a few kilometres from Georgioupolis.
According to historical references, the area around the lake was also associated with a sanctuary dedicated to Athena Korissia, linking the name not only to the natural beauty of the region, but also to its ancient cultural heritage.
For Corissia Resorts, the name therefore represents much more than a place. It reflects our roots in the region of Georgioupolis and Kournas, our connection to Crete’s history, and our commitment to authentic hospitality shaped by the island’s nature, culture and timeless values.
