The pristine beach of Domata

Wide, beautiful and extremely secluded: On the beach of Domata you will experience untouched nature at its purest! If you make the effort to get there, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking backdrop and wonderful solitude. Domata Beach is still an insider tip today - simply because it is so remotely located.

The village of Agia Roumeli, the first stage of your journey, at the end of the Samaria Gorge, can already be described as quite isolated. The beach of Domata is located in one of the wildest, loneliest areas of Crete, which is not even connected to the road network.

To get there, there are only two options: the boat and a full-day trekking tour. If you want to take the easier route, take the ferry from Chora Sfakion to Agia Roumeli and then hire a fishing boat in the village to take you to the beach.

As you would expect in this case, there are no tavernas or other tourist amenities on this beach. Natural shade is provided by the pine trees that gently sway in the wind along the beach, and if you dig in the grey sand, fresh spring water even comes to light.

Whoever comes here experiences pleasurable solitude against a backdrop of wild gorges and rock terraces, to which the beach also owes its name. Domata translates as 'roof'.
