The Aradena Gorge

The Aradena Gorge is one of the most impressive gorges in Crete. The entrance to the gorge is found near the village of Aradena, at the western end of the plateau of Anopoli in the southwest of the island.

The gorge is about 7 kilometres long and its impressive walls are almost vertical in many places. It takes about 3 hours to hike through the gorge, a trekking route of medium difficulty.

Numerous trees and endemic plants grow in the watercourse and on the high walls, while wild goats, other small mammals and many endangered bird species nest in the cliffs.
