The pebble and coarse sand beach of Sougia

Sougia, the tiny south coast hamlet on a pebble and coarse sand beach about 1 km long, nestles in complete solitude between Paleochora and Agia Roumeli, the port for the Samaria Gorge. Hikers in particular like to stay here for one or more nights, walking the European Long Distance Trail E4 from Paleochora to Chora Sfakion.

There are a few taverns and cafés along the just 200 m long waterfront promenade, and people stay in small guesthouses. It begins at a dry creek bed and ends at a small boat harbour.
